Founded in 1983, it promotes Mandarin and English teaching, as well as multicultural education, to train students to become leaders. The earliest in Hong Kong adopts the IB curriculum, with grades 7-11 adopting the IBMYP and grades 12-13 adopting the IBDP.

School Introduction

Chinese International School features Chinese-English bilingual courses, giving foreign and local students more opportunities to learn and use Chinese, and strives to achieve the highest academic standards. The purpose of the school is to inspire students to love learning and pursue knowledge throughout their lives. Among them, the bilingual courses of Chinese Language and Culture Foundation mean that there are not only Chinese classes, but two teachers with native Chinese and English as the class teachers in each class. All grades are jointly planned and taught by Chinese and English teachers. The school’s inquiry-based comprehensive teaching program develops children’s Chinese language skills from an early age, and the average tenure of teaching staff is at least nine years.

 Hanji’s pioneering bilingual courses are proud of Hong Kong’s academic community. In recent years, a series of innovative projects such as Hangzhou Hanji, Positive Education, Hanji·MIT Summer STEAM Camp, Tuition Assistance Plan and Inclusive Learning have enriched students’ learning experience. Through bilingual courses in Chinese and English, the school encourages students with diverse languages and backgrounds to fully realize their potential, and enables students to influence their peers and other adults inside and outside the school through their behavior.

Public examination results and rankings
The 2019 graduates achieved excellent results, and 91 students in the whole grade took the "International Baccalaureate Diploma" For the IBDP exam, the passing rate is 100%, with an average score of 38 (the highest score is 45). Among them, 39.6% of students obtained scores of 40 and above, and 40 points is regarded as the threshold for applying to the world's best universities.


Application for admission
Applications will be made by the desired admission date Two years are accepted. The application period begins on September 1st for the two academic years prior to enrollment and ends on October 1st of the academic year prior to enrollment.

Elementary Year (Grades 1-6)
The application period is: September 1st to February 28th, starting the school year before enrollment. Please note that places are very limited in these years.
Please also note that the largest number of places available is in Year 7, with over 50 new places.

Admission Assessment
Applicants are required to take a written assessment. Reception applicants to Stage 2 are required to attend a separate parent meeting and parents and/or applicants may also be invited to attend such meetings.
