Frequently Asked Questions about the British University Academic System

Q1. What is the difference between British Foundation or HNC?

From the perspective of the British qualifications structure, they are the same Level 5 courses, with a visa of up to 2 years. After completing the British Foundation, you can proceed to Year 1 of a British university, but after completing the HNC, you can proceed to the 2-year HND, and after completing the HND, you can proceed to Year 3 of a British university.

Q2. What is the difference between International Year 1, HND or Foundation Degree?

International Year 1 requires graduating from high school and completing the 1-year course to enter Year 2 of a British university. Students can only study International Year 1 at a British university or a British private Sixth Form College. HND requires graduating from high school and completing a 2-year course to enter Year 3 of a British university. Foundation Degree has no admission requirements. After completing the 2-year course, you can enter Year 3 of a British university.

The subjects of HND and Foundation Degree courses are mainly vocational, such as sports, hotel, engineering and mechanics; but the courses of International Year 1 are mainly academic, such as physics, mathematics, psychology, engineering, etc.

Q3. Under what circumstances do you need to study British Pre Master?

Students who do not have a 2:1 undergraduate degree or do not meet the IELTS standard need to study for 6-9 months as a Pre Master. After completion, they can study for a British Master's degree. As for students who want to change careers through a British master's degree, such as undergraduate psychology, Sports Science, or want to become nurses, physical therapy, or occupational therapists, these students can do so through the 2-year British master's conversion course.

Q4. British FE College, British private Sixth Form College, and British universities can all study British Foundation or International Year 1. What are their courses or British universities? the difference?

Foundation or International Year 1 of a British university is generally one-to-one, that is, after completing the course and meeting the standards, you can progress to Year 1 or Year 2 of the British university.

The British Foundation or International Year 1 of British tertiary institutions (FE College) or British private Sixth Form College is one-to-many, but some famous universities such as LSE, UCL, King's College London do not Provides British University Foundation. Students can study the University of London Foundation through designated British tertiary institutions (FE College) or British private Sixth Form College.
