Macau study abroad fees

Compared with Hong Kong or other countries, the tuition fees of colleges and universities in Macau are lower, about RMB 50,000 to 70,000 per year, and the accommodation fee is about RMB 10,000 per year. The living expenses are not much different from those in the mainland. It is worth noting that according to relevant regulations, mainland students hold study visas and do not have resident ID cards, so they cannot work in Macau or study part-time. Since there is no opportunity to work and study, colleges and universities have different scholarship programs.

University Scholarships

For the current college entrance examination candidates enrolled in Macau, all colleges and universities in Macau will issue scholarships of different degrees according to the candidates' college entrance examination scores, and enjoy full or half exemption of tuition fees, and even enjoy accommodation and living subsidies. In the future, you only need to maintain a certain score every year to continue to enjoy it. Macau University of Science and Technology has also established special love scholarships for some outstanding students, which are free of all fees. The Macau Polytechnic University also offers scholarships to students with high academic performance, such as the Huang Rukai Scholarship, the Macau Foundation Mainland Student Scholarship, and the Mainland Outstanding Freshman Scholarship. The Macau University of Science and Technology has also set up special love scholarships for some outstanding students, which are free of all fees.

For master's students enrolled in Macau, Macau universities provide living expenses and other expenses for full-time master's degree students with excellent academic performance during their studies. For example, the University of Macau offers a graduate scholarship, with a monthly award of MOP 7,500 for one year (12 months); the scholarship can be renewed for a maximum of two years based on the applicant's performance in school and scientific research practice. The winners are also exempted from paying tuition fees during the award period. In addition, the University of Macau also provides assistance in teaching and research work, with a monthly allowance of MOP 7,500 for one year, up to two years.

Living expenses

The average living expenses of students in Macau are about MOP2,000 to MOP3,000 per month, including food, transportation and miscellaneous expenses. Food expenses are the main expense, accounting for about 30% of the total living expenses. Residents can eat in the university cafeteria, breakfast costs about MOP15-20, and lunch/dinner costs about MOP20-25 per meal.

Currency

The official currency unit of Macau is the Macau Pataca. There are six denominations of banknotes: 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000; there are six coins: 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 1 dollar, 2 dollars and 5 dollars. All goods sold and services provided in Macau are charged in Macau Pataca, but Hong Kong dollars or other circulating currencies such as Renminbi can also be used. The exchange rate is determined by market fluctuations. Local and foreign currencies can enter and exit the country freely, with no limit on the amount. Students can freely exchange Renminbi for Macau Pataca at banks in Macau or at money changers near immigration checkpoints.
