Hong Kong University Undergraduate Application

Qualifications required of applicants

If you are a student from mainland China, most universities require applicants to be current national college entrance examination candidates or repeaters, and some universities do not have this requirement. If you are a student from other regions, there is generally no clear requirement.

Application process

Mainland Chinese students can complete the application through the online application system. The application deadline is generally in early June. After the college entrance examination results are released in late June, applicants need to fill in their college entrance examination scores through the online application system immediately so that universities can determine whether the applicants are eligible for interviews as soon as possible. Applicants' college entrance examination scores must reach the interview score line set by universities in various provinces and cities to be eligible for interviews. According to the instructions of the Ministry of Education of China, Hong Kong institutions must complete the admission work before July 7 each year for independent enrollment in the mainland. If applicants do not receive an admission notice before July 7, they can be regarded as unsuccessful. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, if mainland students have been admitted by Hong Kong institutions that recruit students independently in the mainland and have accepted the relevant student status, mainland universities will no longer admit them.

Non-freshman high school graduates or students with other academic qualifications can submit their admission applications through the online application system through the "direct admission" channel, and the university will review them individually according to their circumstances. Admission applications from mainland students with outstanding extracurricular activities will be given special consideration.

Undergraduate course settings

Hong Kong's university undergraduate courses are designed using a credit system, which is generally a three-year full-time bachelor's degree course. Due to the differences in the education system between Hong Kong and the mainland, mainland students need to enroll in a full-time 120-credit course. Therefore, the total enrollment period is four years, and the first year is mainly basic courses. Students can be awarded a bachelor's degree after completing the course and accumulating the required credits.

Basic Courses

Basic courses mainly include English, mathematics and other related intensive subjects. Students can also apply to their respective colleges for elective degree courses according to their personal learning abilities. Through basic courses, students can master learning, thinking and self-management methods, expand their social circles, and understand and experience Hong Kong society and culture.
