Kindergarten
In Hong Kong, kindergartens and kindergarten-cum-child care centers provide services for children aged three to six years. The purpose of kindergarten education in Hong Kong is to cultivate children's all-round development in moral, intellectual, physical, social skills and aesthetics; to develop good habits and prepare for life; to stimulate children's interest in learning, cultivate a positive attitude towards learning, and prepare them for life. Primary education
The government’s goal is to provide a balanced and diversified school education to meet the different needs of students; to help them accumulate for future learning and personal growth Knowledge, establish values, develop skills; enhance students' biliterate (Chinese, English) and trilingual (English, Mandarin, Cantonese) abilities.
Primary education begins around the age of six and lasts for six years. There are three operating modes for primary schools, namely morning, afternoon and full-day. With government encouragement, most primary schools are full-day. Most primary schools use Chinese as the medium of instruction and English as the second language.
The basic education curriculum reform in the 2001/02 school year promoted teaching and learning in the classroom. Through a wide variety of learning activities, students now improve their general skills, values and attitudes and become independent learners. The school continuously adapts its core curriculum to meet the needs of its students. Based on its strengths and experience, the school strengthens its curriculum to help students improve their lifelong learning abilities and cultivate whole-person development.
Secondary Education
In order to meet the challenges of the 21st century and the needs of a rapidly developing knowledge-based society, the government began to implement the three-level education system in the fourth grade of secondary schools in September 2009. The new high school academic structure is a year-long system. This flexible, coherent and diverse program is designed to cater for students with different interests, needs and abilities, as well as to cultivate students' whole-person development and lifelong learning capabilities. The first batch of students under the new academic structure graduated in the summer of 2012.
All students can now enjoy six years of secondary education. After completing Form 6, students sit for a public examination - the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination. This examination replaced the previous Secondary School Entrance Examination and Advanced Level Examination. The first Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination was successfully held in 2012. The qualifications of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination have been widely recognized in international benchmark studies locally and around the world, including the report of the British Academic Accreditation Center and the score comparison system of the British University and College Admissions Office. Up to now, about 280 overseas colleges and universities accept this new qualification as an admission qualification, including the famous University of Cambridge and Yale University, and these institutions are constantly increasing.
International Schools
In addition to local schools, the government is committed to developing international schools to meet the needs of overseas students who live in Hong Kong or come to Hong Kong for work and investment. family needs.
Postsecondary Education
The government is committed to providing multiple entry and exit pathways for secondary school graduates. Some secondary school graduates start a bachelor's program directly after completing the Diploma of Secondary Education examination. Some students choose sub-degree programmes. After graduation, they can progress to top-up degree programs ("2+2" model) to obtain a bachelor's degree.
There are currently 22 higher education institutions in Hong Kong that can award local degrees (9 are funded by public funds and 13 are self-financing). In addition to undergraduate programs, students can choose from a variety of associate degree programs, continuing education and vocational training courses based on their interests and abilities.
We have a two-pronged approach, both promoting publicly funded post-secondary education and assisting the development of self-financing post-secondary education. Currently, 48% of the working-age population has the opportunity to study for a bachelor's degree. Including associate degrees, more than 70% of young people have access to post-secondary education.
After graduating from the undergraduate program, students can choose from a variety of postgraduate courses, including postgraduate courses and research courses.
Vocational and Professional Education
Vocational and Professional Education is crucial in expanding learning opportunities for graduates and working personnel and cultivating the human capital required for Hong Kong’s development , and provide young people with diverse ways to live their interests and ideals.
The Vocational Training Council provides training to about 250 000 students every year through its 13 institutional members, and provides vocational and professional education courses for people with different educational levels. Various other post-secondary institutions also offer about 160 self-financing higher diploma courses, at least 60% of which involve specific subjects, vocational education or vocational skills.
Universities and higher education
Education in Hong Kong has entered a new era. Since the introduction of a new academic system in 2012, the study period of undergraduate courses in Hong Kong has been changed from three years to four years. The new academic system is consistent with academic systems in most parts of the world, providing more opportunities for students to communicate around the world. Tertiary institutions in Hong Kong have taken advantage of the one-year extension to adjust their curricula to cultivate world citizens with academic excellence and an international perspective through interdisciplinary learning, service learning locally and around the world, exchange programs and enriching learning experiences.
Hong Kong has 22 degree-awarding higher education institutions. These institutions offer a wide variety of high-quality programs ranging from associate degrees to doctoral degrees. In addition, there are 22 post-secondary colleges offering a variety of locally recognized sub-degree programs.
Hong Kong has many world-class institutions. Among the 22 degree-awarding institutions, three are among the top 50 in the QS World University Rankings and the other two are among the top 200. Hong Kong universities offer some of the best executive business management programs in the world, and they also co-organize a variety of programs with famous universities around the world.
