Hong Kong's eight public universities have their own application dates. Here is some basic information to give you a preliminary understanding of the application dates of the University of Hong Kong. As these dates change slightly every year, students are advised to check with the relevant institutions.
An academic year is usually divided into two semesters, with the first semester from September to the end of December and the second semester from mid-January to May. The application deadlines of Hong Kong universities are different. Generally, they are in the semester before the academic year. For example, for September admission, the application deadline starts as early as December of the previous year and ends at the end of May of the current year (if it is a written application, it is generally closed at the end of April). The application deadlines of various institutions are different. In order to avoid missing the application opportunity, please check with the relevant institutions first to obtain the application documents and submission dates they require.
For students in mainland China who take the college entrance examination, if their scores meet the requirements, the university will usually arrange an interview at the end of June. Information about the interview can be found on the website of the university you applied to. Admitted students will receive an email and written notice in early July, and students must complete the admission procedures within the specified date. Applicants who do not receive an admission notice before July 7 will be considered unsuccessful.
According to the instructions of the Ministry of Education of China, Hong Kong institutions must complete the admission work before July 7 every year for independent enrollment in the Mainland. Students admitted by Hong Kong independent enrollment institutions will no longer be admitted by Mainland universities. Therefore, universities in Hong Kong will complete the admission work on or before July 7. For students who are admitted by universities and pay a reservation fee to the university to confirm their acceptance, the university will submit their names and college entrance examination candidate numbers to the Ministry of Education and the relevant provincial and municipal admissions offices, and the students will no longer be eligible for admission to mainland universities.
